Inky ruby red color. The bouquet is intense,
bursting with the scent of freshly crushed
blackberries with undertones of vanilla, balsam,
black pepper and tobacco. The wine is solid and
firm on the palate with chewy tannins melting
seamlessly into a background of lush, dense, ripe
fruit. It displays surprising elegance for such a
blockbuster of a wine. -Kim Clougherty

Information
Bodega la Viña de Font de la Figuera exemplifies the
new wave of wineries in the Valencia region. Wine
has been made here since before the Romans arrived,
it’s only recently that they’ve caught the attention
of wine lovers worldwide however.
Valencia has long been a focal point for the Spanish
wine industry, through its port have been shipped
millions of gallons of wine over the years – most of
it to be blended into anonymity valued more for its
color and concentration than its own inherent
quality.

Valencian vineyards in the springtime.
Bodega la Viña’s history reaches back to 1944 when
38 growers came together with their 47 hectares to
produce wine in a cooperative. They’ve grown up
since then, their vineyards total over 2000 hectares
now! And the group is at the forefront of the new
wave of quality wines coming out of Valencia.
Venta del Puerto embodies the new
Valencia. It’s oriented towards the high-end
market, where competition and criticism is stiff.
They’ve set their sights high and have taken the
necessary steps in the vineyards and in the
winecellar to produce an iconic wine. Only 40,000
bottles were produced, each individually numbered.
